Growing up, I'd often find myself sneaking into my dads closet to borrow his enormous VHS camcorder without his permission. It led to a lot of disciplinary action on his part. Or when going to family parties or events, I would be the one isolated from the group on my toes straining to get my eye up to the viewfinder while panning the tripod across the party. Years later, capturing stories through people's lives is what give me purpose. I can't explain very well what being behind the camera feels like to me. It's not euphoria, or a sense of satisfaction or completion... It's a lot more simple than that: I seize to exist because the only thing that exists in that moment is the story. I melt away behind the camera. All my insecurities, my thoughts, my person all goes away. Just how I used to melt away when I was a kid messing around with his VHS camcorder. Capturing the story through composition, audio, and editing gives life to an ensemble of human emotion that we all share in common. That is what I seek: To tell stories that move the human Spirit.
